Achilles Tendinitis

Achilles Tendinitis and Tendinopathy - Pivot Podiatry

Achilles tendinopathy is an injury of the achilles tendon and should be treated as early as possible (tendinopathy is a degeneration of the collagen protein that forms the tendon, with or without inflammation).

One form of tendinopathy is Achilles tendinitis, where inflammation at the Achilles tendon is seen at the posterior (back) of the ankle.

Numerous factors can be responsible for Achilles tendinopathy, including; foot and ankle posture leading to the achilles tendon bowing outwards, causing swelling and pain at the back of ankle.

Additional factors are footwear lacking support, tightness in the hamstrings/calf/plantar fascia soft tissues, a quick increase in training or activity levels, can all contribute to symptoms in your achilles tendon.
